Meiosis

Have you ever wondered how a baby was created? Its not brought to you by a stork but it is created by Meiosis.

Meiosis is very different from mitosis. Meiosis involves one replication of the genetic material in the chromosomes, followed by two divisions of that genetic material. Therefore, the genetic material is reduced by half. The result of meiosis in a diploid cell is four haploid cells.
Meiosis deals with the sexual reproduction of life. This process is the same one that makes your baby:) How meiosis works is when the sperm of of a man is entered into the egg of the woman. When this happens it creates the babies embryo and and all the important cells and stem cells. (These steps is between the fertilized egg and 22 weeks) After it divides and creates the important cells it goes on to create the "baby". This is where the baby starts to look like a little tad pole because it is just making the skin and essentials like the heart and lungs and this is around 36 weeks. After the little heart beat is created it starts to look like a little human being which is amazing to watch how the child grows. We watch a video in class called "Life Greatest Miracles" which followed a woman who was pregnant and showed what happened when a woman is pregnant. What was interesting is when the body realizes that  something foreign is inside a woman the white blood cells try to get rid of it by attacking the little "baby" embryo which causes the woman to get "morning sickness". If the white blood cells do attack the embryo to the point of nothing that can cause a miscarriage or another way is the egg not making it to the flopain tube correctly. The rest is just a longer time of creating a baby:) But that sums up Meiosis.

HERE IS A VIDEO FROM KAHN ACADEMY. This is a great site and it is easy to understand and follow.
